Anchor Scenarios

At the Driving Simulation North America Conference 2007, a discussion panel entitled Science or Art: Replicating, validating, and standards led to the concept of creating "anchor scenarios", which researchers can include in their scenarios for individual studies to enable comparison between studies, simulators and even test track or real world studies. The results will allow for cross-platform comparisons. Some examples of anchor scenarios, general tasks that drivers often encounter, include lead vehicle car following behavior, curve negotiation, gap acceptance, and lane keeping.
