How to get started using the driving wiki locked

To access password-protected information:
Click here to register or to login

To password protect information:
Note: Only logged-in users can password protect information
1) Go to page you intend to password protect
2) Click on the "perms" tab at the top of this page
3) Under the "Assign permissions" header, select "tiki_p_view" for the "assign" call-down box, and select the group you would like to have access to the page (e.g., "CSL") under the "to group" call-down box
4) Click on the "this page" button to save the permission change



To edit a page:
1) Sign-in
2) Click on the Edit tab on the existing page that you wish to edit
3) Add in information by coping text from other documents and pasting it directly into the Edit window or by creating original content using the wiki syntax listed below the Edit window.
4) Save this page



To apply a template:
1) If you edit a page or create a new one, there is a drop-down menu entitled "Apply template" above the Edit window. Select the appropriate template.
2) Refer to "To create a new page", Method 2 below for additional instruction on adding a new page.



To create a new page:
Note: To practice adding and editing content without actually making a new page, click on "Sandbox" on the left-hand menu.

Method 1: Use the quick edit button below the left-hand menu
Note: This method will not directly connect the added page to the existing structure - see 'To add a created page to the wiki' below
1) Sign-in
2) Scroll down to the "Quick edit a wiki page" box on the left-hand of this page, below the menu
3) Type in a title
Note: an edit window with the new page title should automatically pop-up once you hit enter
4) Add content to the created page
5) Save added content.

Method 2: Add a link to a new page from an existing page
1) Sign-in
2) Click on the Edit tab on any existing page
3) In the Edit window, type in "((" then the new page name "xxx" then "))" - do not include the quotes for these entries; there are no spaces between these entries
4) Save the edited page
5) On the original page, you will see a ? after the name of the new page you specified. Click on this ?
6) You should be re-directed to the newly created page with editing capabilities. Add in information by coping text from other documents and pasting it directly into the Edit window or by creating original content using the wiki syntax listed below the Edit window.
7) Save this page
If you go back to the original page, the created page is listed as a page to access



To add a created page to the wiki:
1) Go to the page to which you want to add the link
2) Click on the Edit tab
3) Type in "((" then the name of the created page "xxx" then "))"; there are no spaces between these entries
4) Save the edited page



To create a wiki page using a Word document:
In the Word document
1) Go to "File" menu, "Save As"
2) Select "Web Page, Filtered" as the file type, then Save
(Click yes if an error box pops-up)
3) Open the re-saved Word file in Notepad (in Notepad you should be able to see the html code; if you open the re-saved document in Word, it converts the file automatically to a viewable web page)
4) Copy the html code as displayed in the Notepad file

In an Edit window of the driving wiki
5) Paste the copied html code into the Edit window
6) Click the "Allow HTML" checkbox under the Edit window
7) Save the wiki page



To attach a previously uploaded file to a page:
1) Click on "File Galleries" on the left-hand menu
2) Find the particular file within the galleries and take note of its file ID number (you will need this number to add the attachment link)
3) Go to the page to which you want to add the file attachment
4) Link to the selected file using this code (copy and paste the code below into the Edit window of the selected page):
[http://www.simusers.com/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=#|link_description]

5) Replace the "#" sign with the ID number of the file
6) Replace "link_description" with the file name you want displayed on the wiki page


To upload files:
1) Click on "File Galleries" on the left-hand menu
2) Select one of the listed file galleries
3) Click on the "upload file" tab at the top of the page
4) List the "File Title" and "File Description", then once the file is located using the Browse button, click the "Upload" button at the bottom of the page
Note: Please enter the full reference into the "File Description" if the file is a paper, book chapter, conference proceeding, or tech report.
5) IMPORTANT: copy the http address listed under "The following file was successfully uploaded:"
6) Copy the http address into the page you want it shown in using this code:
[URL|link_description]

For example:
[http://www.simusers.com/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=12|Lee 2006]

In this example, "Lee 2006" would show up as the name of the uploaded file.



To add a hotlink:
[URL|linked_text]

1) In an edit window, paste the http address in front of the desired linked text
2) Separate the http address and the desired linked text with a separator, i.e. "|"; there should be no spaces on either side of the separator
3) Add a bracket before the http address, and one following the desired linked text; there should be no spaces between these brackets and the text
4) Save the page



To add html code to an individual wiki page:
1) Go to the particular wiki page; click on the Edit tab
2) Under the Edit window, click on the checkbox "Allow HTML"
3) Click the "save" button to save this initialization of html code
You should now be able to add in html tags that the wiki will read and properly display.



To bold text:
2 underscores before and after the desired bolded text.
E.g., __text__

To italicize text:
2 single quotes before and after the desired italicized text.
E.g., ''text''

To center text:
2 colons before and after the desired italicized text.
E.g., ::text::

To color text:
2 tildes, color name, colon, text, 2 tildes; there should be no spaces between these characters.
E.g., ~~blue:text~~

To underline text:
3 equal signs before and after the desired underlined text.
E.g., ===text===

To create a text box:
1 carat before and after the selected text.
E.g., ^text^

To remove wiki formatting of text - plain text:
Add np (no processing) tags before and after the selected text.
E.g., ~np~text~/np~

To include a non-breaking space:
Use ~hs~~ for a non-breaking space.
