Research Interests

Cognitive assessment and driver distraction; data mining and knowledge discovery; cognitive modeling and performance prediction.

Using Data Mining Techniques to Assess Driver Cognitive Distraction (SAVE-IT):
The goal of this project was creating assessment models of driver cognitive distraction to help mitigate disruption to driver attention from in-vehicle systems and to support adaptive in-vehicle interfaces. Two data-mining techniques, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Bayesian Network (BN), were used to identify driver distraction, with encouraging results obtained for both techniques. Future research will apply the current models to various driving environments, including on-road evaluation of the approaches.
